Battery fitments are Groves Batteries’ specialty. Since 1948, we’ve been fitting batteries and leveraging our extensive knowledge of batteries and their connected systems to provide you with a level of quality comparable to main dealers. We offer like-for-like OE battery quality, fitted with the latest workshop equipment all without the hefty price tag.
What we do:
When you bring your vehicle to us, we will ask what problem(s) you may be having and will:
⋅ Test your battery and/or alternator – free of charge.
⋅ Advise on the battery results. If a new battery is needed, we will quote you our fully fitted price before work begins.
⋅If a new battery is needed, we do not require appointments, and this service is done while you wait – we usually need 15-20 minutes with most vehicles. Some can take 45-60 minutes; we will advise you of this at the time.
⋅ When fitting a new battery, we will first keep the vehicle’s electrical system live with our purpose-built power suppliers.
→ Doing so means we do not lose any radio codes, trip memory, user settings or clock time.
→ It’s not always possible to keep the power on while changing the battery, but we will sort out any resetting required.
⋅ Our battery technicians will carefully remove and recycle your old battery free of charge.
→ Some vehicles will require a lot of panels and components to be removed in order to remove the battery – our technicians have decades of experience with every brand and model on the road, so we can make quick work with battery removal while ensuring panels and components are removed in the correct manner and undamaged.
⋅ Our technicians will then fit your new battery of choice – we pride ourselves in offering original equipment brands like Exide and Varta for the best possible performance and lifespan.
→ Depending on the vehicle, we also offer more economical battery options.
→ While the battery is out of the vehicle, we will also check the battery tray and connections for any problems and can action as part of our fitting service.
⋅ Once the new battery is fitted, we will replace any panels and/or components that were removed previously, making sure everything is done to the original manufacturer’s specifications.
⋅ For Start/Stop vehicles or vehicles with eco features, new battery registration in the ECU is usually required and will be completed as part of our service.
→ We use brand-new Autel diagnostic equipment that has 99% market-wide compatibility to ensure our battery registration processes are correct and to the original manufacturer’s specifications.
→ Manufacturers that will require battery registration include: Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Mazda, Mini, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Nissan, Opel, Porsche, Smart and Vauxhall.
→ If battery registration is not performed, the new battery could wear out much faster than it should and only last up to 18 months.
⋅ If required, we can also read and clear vehicle fault codes that may correct other electrical issues.
⋅ Once the fitment is completed, we will give you your receipt with your battery warranty on it, as well as provide any applicable advice on how to get the best life out of your new battery.

Our services are not booked, so you can drop in anytime that suits you during our opening hours and most of our fitment services are done while you wait, so you’ll be back on the road usually in less than half an hour. With others, you will have to pre-book (sometimes weeks in advance), leave your vehicle with them for the day, and will be charged more for the pleasure.
Vehicle Specialties:
Some modern vehicles have specific requirements to change the battery successfully. At Groves, we have the knowledge and equipment required to change the battery to the manufacturer’s original specification.
Some current examples:
Land Rover Discovery, Discovery Sport, Evoque, Velar (manufactured 2018-2020) and Jaguar F-Pace, XE, XF (manufactured 2018-2020) – requires specialist ISO14229-compliant diagnostic equipment to register the battery. Using non-compliant OBD devices can cause the instrument panel cluster to see a functional request for a diagnostics service it doesn’t support, leaving it unable to go to sleep, which in turn causes the battery to discharge within days. We use specialist diagnostic equipment that does not cause this issue.
Volkswagen Touareg Mk3 / Bentley Bentayga / Audi Q7 & Q8 / Lamborghini Urus / Porsche Cayenne Mk3 (& anything with a mild-hybrid system) – requires the hybrid battery to be powered down digitally and physically isolated before the main battery can be replaced. We have technicians who are trained to IMI EV levels 3 & 4, meaning they have the knowledge on how to handle high voltage systems according to the manufacturer’s guidelines and the required diagnostic equipment that can power down the hybrid battery.
EVs (Electric Vehicles) – EVs will still have a 12V car battery installed to power the vehicle cabin, as well as the main battery’s computer. Specific processes are usually required in order to change the 12V battery, which requires EV-specific training. We have technicians who are trained to IMI EV levels 3 & 4 who can provide a stress-free battery replacement.
